Mahshid Fashandi Hager is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 10 years of experience in the field of individual, couple and family therapy. She has a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University and has worked with people of diverse backgrounds in San Diego County since 1998.
Her clinical experience has included working with children, adolescents, adults, families and blended families. Mahshid has experienced success in treating individuals and families with symptoms of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationship challenges and parenting issues. Born in Iran and raised in Germany, Mahshid is mindful and understanding of the powerful affect of cultural and ethnic issues. Her Client Centered approach focuses on supporting her clients on their paths to finding solutions and change.
Mahshid’s experience includes work with young children, ages 0 to 5 using play therapy and The Incredible Years Model. She has worked with school-aged children addressing emotional and behavioral issues affecting functioning at home and at school. Parents are offered psycho education and therapeutic support to strengthen parenting skills and the parent-child bond.
Mahshid has specialized training in Somatic Experiencing, SE, working with those who have experienced trauma. Somatic Experiencing is a body awareness approach to trauma. Mahshid incorporates SE into other forms of therapy to help clients developing a "felt" sense of setting clearer and more intentional interpersonal boundaries.
Mahshid is fluent in English, Farsi and German.
